Surrey-raised pals Jujhar Khaira and Arshdeep Bains lifted the Calder Cup with their Abbotsford Canucks teammates Monday night (June 23) in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The team won the American Hockey League championship with a 3-2 victory in Game 6 of their series with Charlotte Checkers.
In the post-game celebration at Bojangles Coliseum, Khaira lifted the Cup first then passed it to Bains for him to carry around the ice surface, as teammates cheered both forwards.
The celebration ended two months of playoff hockey for the AHL affiliate of the NHL Vancouver Canucks.
Bains scored seven goals and 17 assists during the impressive Cup run, while Khaira, who signed with the team well into the regular season, added three goals and six assists in 24 games.
The Calder Cup final was a Surrey showdown for the championship, with Bains and Khaira of the Canucks facing Justin Sourdif, 23, on the Checkers roster.
