From cockpit to classroom, WCC empowers futures with hands-on Aviation and Early Childhood Education programs in Surrey and Abbotsford.

At Western Community College (WCC), accessible, inclusive education is more than a goal – it’s a commitment. With campuses in both Surrey and Abbotsford, WCC empowers students to succeed through flexible, career-focused programs and a community-first approach to learning.

In Surrey, Western Community College’s location in the innovative Health and Technology District places students at the centre of health care and research development. This real-world environment enhances hands-on programs like Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Education Assistant – both designed to prepare students to support young learners in child care centres, preschools and other essential community settings. These programs not only prepare students for the workforce – they also lay the foundation for certification through the ECE Registry and provide a strong understanding of how children grow through play, connection and inclusive learning.

“WCC is all about community and what it represents,” says Brandie Yule, Director of Admissions. “Our students are welcomed and supported throughout their entire journey. We make sure they’re involved—whether it’s within the school or out at events—so they can take a break, enjoy their new surroundings, build friendships, and give back to the communities they’re now part of.”

At the Surrey campus, students can also enrol in programs such as Medical Lab Assistant, Health Care Assistant (Continuing Education), and the Community Support Worker Diploma, which includes a live-in caregiver stream. Each program is designed for those looking to build meaningful careers in caregiving, clinical support and community service.

“At Western Community College, we help students transition into the workforce by offering diploma programs that include practicum components,” says Harmandeep Kaur, Director of Student Services. “These hands-on experiences build both the skills and confidence students need to thrive in today’s high-demand industries.”

In Abbotsford, WCC’s aviation programs are taking off – quite literally. As Canada’s aviation industry continues to grow, so does the demand for trained professionals. WCC offers pathways into this exciting field through programs such as the Commercial Pilot Licence, Private Pilot Licence, Night Rating, Flight Instructor Rating and the popular Airline Cabin Crew Diploma. The Abbotsford campus also offers a variety of other programs including Early Childhood Education (ECE), Medical Lab Assistant, business and accounting programs.

Thanks to Abbotsford’s convenient location and access to a thriving flight training infrastructure, students are finding their wings and launching careers in a vital sector of Canada’s economy and global connectivity.

WCC being a pinnacle of private education, its student-first approach, personalized instruction and community-focused values are changing the narrative. Here, education isn’t one-size-fits-all – it’s built to meet students where they are and take them where they want to go.
