9-year-old girl lured from Surrey bedroom and sexually assaulted

Police are looking for a man who abducted and attacked child near 128 Street and 99 Avenue Wednesday night.

A nine-year-old girl was taken from her Surrey bedroom Wednesday night, sexually assaulted and left in a nearby yard.

The suspect is still at large.

On Aug. 27 at about 10:40 p.m., Surrey RCMP received a report from a mother who said her daughter had been abducted from her bedroom where she had been sleeping in the family home.

When Mounties arrived, they learned the girl was lured out of her window by an unknown male.

He then took her to a nearby park, where it’s alleged he sexually assaulted her. She was then taken to a nearby yard, where she was told by the attacker to remain until he left.

The child complied, but then ran to her home, and was subsequently taken to hospital.

A description of the attacker was not yet available as of Thursday afternoon.

Police were expected to be at the scene and in the neighbourhood near 99 Avenue and 128 Street for the balance of Thursday and Friday, knocking on doors looking to identify anyone that may have seen something out of the ordinary overnight.

Surrey RCMP Sgt. Dale Carr said the girl is doing “as well as anyone could expect.”

Mounties do have physical evidence, which will be checked and pursued with vigour.

“This is a priority, and we’ve redeployed members from other units, and they’re out there hitting the asphalt right now,” Carr said.

Police say the incident does not appear to have any links to the South Surrey sex assault on Aug. 18 or the White Rock incident 11 days prior to that.

However, as it is still early in the investigation police are not able to conclusively say there are no links.

Police are asking Surrey residents to ensure their windows are secured, especially ground floor windows. For safety tips on Home Security visit the Surrey RCMP web site at www.surrey.rcmp.ca or click here.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Surrey RCMP Serious Crime unit at 604-599-0502.  If you wish to remain anonymous please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
