SURREY — Fire investigators in Surrey have yet to determine the cause of a Sunday morning blaze that destroyed an abandoned home in the 9700-block 137 Street.

The 6 a.m. fire also destroyed a portion of a neighbouring home, said Surrey Fire Services Battalion Chief Ed Wells, who confirmed there were no injuries.

“The house that was on fire is not occupied at the moment,” said Wells.

“As for a cause? It is suspicious and our fire investigators will be back to look at things. We won’t speculate on what happened.”

Residents of the adjacent home will not be able to live in the house until it is repaired.

Wells could not say if the abandoned home had been used by squatters.
