A Surrey Mountie is going to court after an investigation into a report on a motor vehicle accident.

Surrey RCMP Const. James Baker has been charged with one count of public mischief and will be in Surrey Provincial Court on May 14.

The allegations stem from the officer’s off-duty conduct in relation to his reporting of a single-vehicle accident involving his personal vehicle on Dec. 10, 2013.

An investigation of that incident led Surrey RCMP to launch both criminal and code-of conduct-investigations, that were led by the Surrey Professional Standards Unit.

Baker has been suspended from duty. His sidearm, badge and police dentification were also taken from him.
