Apparent standoff in downtown Maple Ridge

Emergency responders have several streets in the ciuty's core closed down tonight

A police incident is unfolding in downtown Maple Ridge Sunday night, that has several streets shut down for what some witnesses believe to be a police standoff.

There's a large RCMP presence in and around a residential neighbourhood behind the Royal Canadian Legion, around Brown Avenue, west of 224th Street. It reportedly started a few hours ago.

In addition to Ridge Meadows RCMP being present, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) is on site with their tactical vehicle, and witnesses reporting hearing flash bangs and smelling tear gas.

A few neighbours are combing the area, searching for two large dogs that have apparently escaped from the suspect property.

As yet, local Mounties have not posted about the matter.
