A pair was driving in Surrey with a baby in the back when they smelled smoke.

On closer examination, the woman saw what she thought was a flame in the BMW.

The man pulled the car over near 140 Street and 79 Avenue, the couple jumped out, and got the three-week old boy out just before the the vehicle became engulfed in flames.

"It was insane," Cole Iszak told CBC News Friday. "Boom. Just Boom."

After firefighters extinguished the fire, Iszak asked if he could get the baby's carseat.

"It was a melted glob of smoking plastic," he said.

Thinking about what might have happened is worse than the experience itself, Janisse said.

"I just keep thinking about what could have happened if we didn't get him out of the car ... very scary."

Cynthia Janisse told CBC she shutters to think what would have happened to young Jasiah if they hadn't acted so quickly.

"I just keep thinking about what could have happened if we didn't get him out of the car ... very scary."
