A 56-year-old motorcyclist from Burnaby suffered serious injuries in a collision in Surrey Monday night that police say was a hit and run.

Police were called at about 8:15 p.m. June 9 to South Fraser Perimeter Road, west of the Port Mann Bridge overpass.

Police say the motorcyclist was travelling eastbound in the curb lane east of 136 Street when he was struck from behind by a grey Ford pickup truck.

The truck driver reportedly initially stopped and got out of his truck, but fled before police officers arrived on scene.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

“We would like to remind the driver involved in this incident that it is never too late to contact our investigators right away and turn himself in,” says Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet. “It is always better to approach the police than have the police approach you.”

The investigation into the crash continues.
