SURREY — Ron Meadley has been named Surrey’s Good Citizen of the Year for 2014.

Meadley’s background includes time as vice president of the Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club, vice president of the Little Campbell Watershed Society and president of the Sunnyside Acres Heritage Society. As well, Meadley has sat as chair of the Sunnyside Acres advisory committee since 2008 and has been a Sunnyside Acres “Friend of the Forest” since 2005.

“Ron Meadley has passionately advocated for the conservation and enhancement of Surrey’s natural areas for many years,” said Mayor Dianne Watts in a press release. “His tireless work for the protection of the environment will have a lasting impact in our city.”

Watts said Meadley is a wonderful example of leadership in the community.

“Because of efforts like Ron’s, we continue to benefit from many talented people who contribute their time and energy to help build a stronger Surrey,” she said.

The award was announced at the city’s annual volunteer services celebration on Tuesday. The event honours committee volunteers for their work throughout the year.
