Crash kills Surrey man after stall on Alex Fraser Bridge

Victim pinned by impact of semi-trailer truck Thursday night

  • Dec. 30, 2011 10:00 a.m.

A 54-year-old Surrey man is dead after a fatal collision on the Alex Fraser Bridge Thursday night.

Police said a semi-trailer truck ran into a stalled five-tonne truck that was towing a pickup truck mid-span on the bridge just after 11 p.m.

A witness said the driver of the stalled truck was apparently pinned between his two vehicles by the force of the semi’s impact.

The man died at Royal Columbian Hospital.

A tow truck had arrived to assist with the stall and the victim had been out of his vehicle directing traffic.

RCMP are now investigating and the semi truck was seized for mechanical inspection.

The crash closed northbound traffic on the bridge for several hours.
