Delta City Manager George Harvie won’t be returning to his post as top staffer before his retirement in May.
Harvie submitted his letter of resignation in the beginning of November after working as Delta’s CAO, and subsequently City Manager, since 2002. He was away on his usual vacation when his resignation was announced in council, but was due to return on Dec. 11 and discuss an exit strategy with council.
Mayor Lois Jackson said that Harvie was due to take another vacation in January, but opted to leave office early.
Before a new City Manager is hired, current senior staffers will be rotating through the City Manager position. When Harvie’s retirement was first announced, Jackson said a replacement will likely be found from within the current senior staff, and no hiring will take place until after the 2018 election.
Jackson said the change won’t affect any initiatives Delta is currently working on.
“I will reach out to Mr. Harvie as needed for his guidance and advice,” Jackson said. “We have so, so many projects, I’m just so aware that there is very much to do to conclude this term.”
