After three years of raising funds for Delta Hospital, the Walk for Health event is being discontinued.

According to officials from the Delta Hospital Foundation, the walk-a-thon's declining participation and financial support is the reason for the decision.

Over its three-year term, the event had raised more than $150,000.

“As steward of the gifts made to the hospital, we strive to come to decisions that are best for Delta Hospital,” said Teresa Cooper, Delta Hospital Foundation Executive Director. “Continuing with Walk for Health would cause us to direct staff and financial resources to an event that was not going to bring us fiscally responsible returns on that investment.”

The event’s Presenting Sponsor, MK Delta Lands Group, will continue to support the hospital through the Foundation’s other events occurring this year—I Heart Delta Hospital, Delta Health Golf Classic and as the Presenting Sponsor of the 2012 Moonlight Gala.

“The generosity of MK Delta Land’s has been overwhelming since the event began, and I am pleased they will be continuing to support our hospital through our other events," said Lois Wilkinson, Delta Hospital Foundation Board Chair. “On behalf of the Foundation, I want to thank everyone, from participants to volunteers to sponsors, for their commitment and involvement over the last three years. You helped introduce the hospital to a wonderful new audience.”

Those who would like to get involved with the hospital can still do so through the I Heart Delta Hospital campaign that is featured in the South Delta Leader.

During February, the Foundation is collecting stories on why the community loves the hospital. Some of them will appear in the Leader's print edition and online.

For every story submitted to iheart@deltahospital.com MK Delta Lands group will donate $100 to the Foundation’s Cardiac Care Fund. For every Facebook or Twitter interaction, MK Delta Lands Group will donate $5.
