Delta Police are warning residents after a string of recent mail thefts.

The Delta Police Department is issuing a warning to residents after recent incidents of both attempted and actual theft of mail in both North and South Delta.

Citizens have been alert and providing suspect and suspect vehicle descriptions which will better the department’s chances of identifying and arresting those involved.

The following is a summary of the descriptions provided:

North Delta, 6900-block of Nicholson Rd.: Suspects were observed attempting to steal mail from the community mailbox. The suspects were scared off when the complainant yelled out to them. Suspects fled but not before the complainant got a brief description; 4 Caucasian males 20 to 40 years old, associated with a black Cadillac SUV and 2 grey sedans. In this incident no mail was actually stolen.

Tsawwassen, 1300-block Beach Grove: Suspect described as a lone Caucasian male roughly 30 years old, wearing a dark ball cap and dark clothing. When confronted he got into the passenger side of a waiting vehicle described as a dark coloured Volkswagen Jetta-type car. In this case the suspect smashed the window of a mail delivery truck, making off with mail and packages.

Ladner, 4800 57th St.: Complainant observed a male breaking into the complex’s mailboxes. Complainant yelled out to the suspect and he fled in a dark coloured SUV with a spare tire on the back. There were two other males in the vehicle but no description was obtained. In this case mail was stolen.

The Delta Police are appreciative of the efforts of Deltans in observing and reporting these incidents, and continue to encourage citizens to call if and when they see someone suspicious in their neighbourhood. Remember be good witnesses, do not engage with the individuals.

Delta Police also remind residents that it is a good practice to pick up your mail daily whenever possible.
