Three North Delta schools will be getting more than $1.7 million in combined funding for maintenance upgrades, according to a recent provincial announcement.
Brooke Elementary and Seaquam Secondary will be getting just over $1.1 million from the School Enhancement Program for needed upgrades to the electrical system and roof respectively.
According to Delta School District director of facilities and planning Herb Wenzel, this funding wasn’t unexpected. The $624,840 for Burnsview Secondary was.
The funding, provided through the Carbon Neutral Capital Program, will allow Burnsview to replace four heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) units in the school with two new high-efficiency ones.
“We are very pleased to be able to move forward with the much needed replacement of this aging system,” Wenzel said in an email. “This project will not only support more efficient heating, which will in turn be a cost saving measure, but also helps our District move towards our carbon neutral goals.”

The Delta school district was among 60 districts to receive maintenance funding from this province. In total, 176 projects will be funded through $82.5 million for everything from mechanical upgrades to fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
