DELTA — Here's a pair of bright sparks.

Two of Delta's retired volunteer fire chiefs, Gordon Huff and Ken Davie, have been awarded the Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association — Municipal Long Service Medal.

Huff started as a volunteer firefighter in 1953 and seven years later became chief of volunteer fire hall four in East Delta. He retired in 1988, after 35 years, with the distinction of being the longest serving fire chief in the municipality's history.

Davie, who started fighting fires in 1964, took over from where Huff left off in 1988 and led the volunteers for the next 22 years. The department was decommissioned five years ago.
