Driver charged after two officers hurt in crash

NEWTON - A Surrey man accused of injuring two Mounties in a traffic crash in Newton on Monday has been charged with two counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

James Burton Weaver, 47, appeared in Surrey provincial court Tuesday.

The two Surrey RCMP officers were taken to hospital Monday after they were injured in a crash outside the Newton district police office.

Police say a male officer was standing between two cars and was pinned when a vehicle struck a parked police car, pushing it into another parked cruiser. A female officer who was sitting in a police car at the time was also injured. Both officers have since been released from hospital.
