A dozen bouquets of flowers lie at a roadside memorial for Harpreet Kaur Mann, who was struck and killed while walking home from her job at Kentucky Fried Chicken last Thursday about 11 p.m.
A 2006 Toyota Corolla was travelling east on 80 Avenue at 122A Street when it struck Mann and a telephone pole.
The 47-year-old female driver of the car received minor injuries and was treated in hospital.
Firefighters performed CPR on Mann at the scene, but she died later in hospital.
The 37-year-old mother of two children, aged nine and 12, was generous to a fault, according to her husband Baljinder.
Harpreet used to take her 12-year-old daughter to all her soccer games, refusing to miss even one.
She was loved by many and is sorely missed, Baljinder said.
"She was very helpful, very helpful. Somebody calls, she'd go right now, right now."
He said it's extremely hard for the family right now, as well as for all her friends and work colleagues.
The family wants criminal charges pursued against the driver who struck Mann.
Surrey RCMP Cpl. Drew Grainger said Mounties are currently investigating the mechanical condition of the car and the possibility the driver was distracted, along with many other details.
Grainger couldn't say for sure whether there was a live cellphone in the car at the time, but he said the investigation would examine phone records to determine whether there was a call being made at the time of the accident.
There is a service planned for Mann on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 12:30 p.m. at Riverside Funeral Home at 7410 Hopcott Rd. in Delta.
