A fire at an older Surrey house Wednesday evening has left a family of four and two other residents homeless.

Surrey Fire Services crews got the call from the older home at 13088 96 Avenue at 5:47 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and flame, according to Assistant Chief of Operations Brian Woznikoski.

Firefighters fought the blaze for almost an hour and a half.

No one was injured and the six adult residents were accommodated through the department's emergency social services program.

The fire department has not yet determined the cause of the fire, which caused extensive damage.
