Four Surrey murder cases 'not cold' but still unsolved

SURREY - This week marked the firstyear anniversary of four Surrey homicides that still remain unsolved.

John McGivern, 33, and Geordie Carlow, 33, were shot dead in a parkade at an apartment complex in Cedar Hills, in the 9400-block of 128th Street, on Jan. 13, 2013. That same day, Manjot Singh Dhillon, 27, was shot dead near 168th Street and 76th Avenue in Fleetwood. Two days later, Manjinder "Manny" Singh Hairan, 27, was shot near 127th Street and 112B Avenue, not far from the Pattullo Bridge.Police have yet to identify a suspect in the killings. They believe two of the shootings were gang related but say they have no evidence that would connect the crimes.Hairan was found in an alley in Bridgeview, just before 2 a.m., and died at the scene. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed at the time that they believed the shooting was "a targeted, gangrelatedhomicide," as was Dhillon's. Dhillon was found lying in the road at about 7 p.m. and died in hospital at 11:30 p.m. Within minutes of his death, McGivern and Carlow were killed in Whalley."IHIT can say that evidence retrieved thus far does not support this homicide to be gang related," Sgt. Jennifer Pound, of IHIT, said at the time, of that particular case.Police found a black SUV roughly eight blocks from the crime scene, that had been seen towing a box utility trailer from where McGivern and Carlow were shot.Pound said while no charges have been laid, these "are not cold cases by any means."Cpl. Dominic Duchesneau, of IHIT, said police "would like to acknowledge the families that have had the difficult endeavour of losing one through homicide.""Investigators are very motivated in finding who is responsible for these murders," he said.Police ask anyone with information about any of these shootings to call the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-IHIT(4448).tzytaruk@thenownewspaper.com
