A man wanted in connection with an Oregon murder investigation is in custody after trying to enter Canada at the Douglas border last week.

According to officials with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a Mexican national was taken into custody the evening of Sept. 20 after a felony warrant was discovered during a query of the National Crime Information Centre database.

Canada Border Services Agency officers returned the traveller to Blaine.

In a news release issued Tuesday afternoon, area port director Kenneth Williams described the apprehension as “an excellent example of two countries working in harmony to bring a wanted fugitive to justice.”

Twenty-three-year-old Cristian Jesus Acosta of Salem was transported to Bellingham to await extradition.
