Helicopter involved in search for boy who got lost on way home from school

NORTH DELTA – Police broke out the helicopter on Tuesday afternoon to search for an 11-year-old boy who got lost on his way home from school.

Sgt. Sarah Swallow, of the Delta Police, said “all patrol resources,” the Air 1 helicopter and community police office volunteers were involved in the “extensive” search, which lasted for roughly an hour and a half.

“The boy and his family are new to the area and it appears he became lost after leaving school at 3 p.m. to walk home,” Swallow said.

“After realizing he was lost, the boy attended a nearby house and asked for help. The homeowner contacted police immediately.” tzytaruk@thenownewspaper.com
