Would you like the chance to help name a Surrey school and possibly participate in making history?

The Surrey Board of Education is inviting the public to submit names for three elementary schools scheduled to open in the next two years.

The sites requiring names are:

• Grandview Heights area, 2828 159 St.

• East Clayton area, 19560 70 Ave.

• South Newton area, 6287 146 St.

As per school board policy, schools are usually named in reference to historical or geographical characteristics. Special consideration is given to names that have significant meaning to students and members of the community. An effort should also be made to avoid confusion that may be caused by having schools with similar names.

Suggestions can be submitted by email to schoolnames@sd36.bc.ca or by mail to: Communication Services Department, Surrey Board of Education, 14033 92 Ave., Surrey, B.C. V3V 0B7.

Typically, several people suggest the same name, or close variations of the same name. For this and other reasons, acknowledgments are not given to those who suggest names that are subsequently chosen by the board.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, March 2. Be sure to identify the school site number for each suggested name.
