A wayward semi-truck on Highway 17 between Nordel Way and the Alex Fraser Bridge is resulting in a six-hour westbound single lane closure, according to the Delta Police Department.

Just before 9 a.m., DPD Const. Sarah Swallow tweeted a semi-truck had reportedly lost its load in the west-bound lane of Highway 17 just across from Sunbury Cedar.

Later, Swallow posted three photos of a severely bent semi-truck trailer. Delta police are on scene to determine the cause of the accident.

The single lane closure will last around six hours because of the heavy duty equipment required to remove the trailer from the road, DPD public affairs coordinator Sharlene Brooks said. Police are still waiting for a crane to arrive on scene so the load can be removed, the trailer moved and reloaded.

Commuters are advised to avoid this section of Highway 17. Although the delay will likely last until evening rush hour, it won’t affect east-bound traffic.
