Homicide in Port Kells

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says it found the body of a man in a car at 189 Street and 92 Avenue in Surrey.

Homicide detectives are probing the Port Kells site were a body of a man was found on Tuesday morning.

As of Tuesday at 3 p.m., three homes near 189 Street and 92 Avenue remain behind police tape.

The focus of attention is where the body is believed to have been found inside a parked vehicle front of a home at 18917 92 Ave.

The home is known to police, but not for anything extremely serious.

Two other homes in the 18800-block of 92 Avenue are also known to police and are behind police tape. What, if anything, they have to do with the homicide investigation, is not known.

“We are in the early stages and although the cause of death will have to be confirmed through autopsy, we can say that this incident does not appear to be a random act,” said Cpl. Dominic Duscheseneau of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

It is officially Surrey’s first homicide of the year, however there have been two other deaths that are considered suspicious.

One hour into the new year, 19-year-old Maurine Arogie tumbled to her death from the 26th floor of a highrise in Whalley.

And on Jan. 6, the body of a 41-year-old woman was found in the 14300-block of 115 Avenue.

Surrey logged a record 25 homicides in 2013.
