A police watchdog is investigating an incident that happened at Surrey's Gateway SkyTrain Station this week.

The Independent Investigation Office (IIO) is examining the role of the Surrey RCMP after a man was injured on Wednesday, around 12:15 p.m.

RCMP were surveilling a vehicle in the mall's parkade. A man got out, and interacted with the police, and then ran to the edge of the parkade and jumped, suffering serious injuries.

The IIO was called to investigate the role of the police in the injury.

The nature of the injuries are unclear.

The IIO told The Leader Thursday the woman's injuries are not related to the use of a police weapon.

Any potential witnesses of this incident, particularly those who were in the area around the Central City Shopping Centre parkade are asked to call the IIO at 1-855-446-8477.
