A pair of teens escaped with mild hypothermia and cuts after spending three hours stranded in Semiahmoo Bay Wednesday.

Teens rescuedAccording to Andrew Newman of White Rock Sea Tours – who responded to a call for assistance from occupants of a sailboat who had spotted the pair waving for help – the two were caught off-guard at the Canada-U.S. boundary marker by the incoming tide. The 14- and 15-year-olds had walked out to the marker at low tide, then became trapped.

"They stated they have been trying to get help for three hours and we're getting cold and tired," Newman told Peace Arch News by email.

"The female could not get out of the water and the male climbed up a ladder on the marker itself in order to attract attention but stayed together."

The teens, who Newman described as Langley residents, were transported to White Rock pier, where they were assessed and treated by paramedics.
