Jail time for man who drugged, robbed Surrey man

A man who deliberately drugged and robbed a Surrey man, before stealing his car, has been sentenced to six years jail.

Brendan Thomas Roshinsky, 27, was sentenced Friday (May 1) in B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster, having been found guilty in the same court in March of administering a drug to commit an indictable offence, theft over $5,000 and theft of a motor vehicle.

After credit for the 27 months he’s already spent in custody, there are three years, nine months remaining of his sentence.

Roshinsky, a Vancouver resident, was arrested in 2013 after Surrey RCMP heard from a man who said he was given a drugged drink by a man who he’d met online. The victim claimed the drink knocked him unconscious and that while he was passed out, the man stole some of his belongings and cash – and then took his car.

A toxicology test showed levels of the sedative GHB (often referred to as the “date rape drug”) in the victim’s system.

At the time of his arrest, police feared Roshinsky may have victimized others and released his photo publicly. However, B.C. court records do not show any subsequent charges laid against Roshinsky.

His sentence also includes a lifetime ban on possessing firearms.
