A Langley man tragically drowned at Cultus Lake this past weekend.
Chilliwack RCMP were called to the scene on Sept. 7, near Entrance Bay at Cultus Lake with other emergency responders, but it took a BC RCMP dive team until the next day to find and recover the man's body.
The man had reportedly failed to resurface after entering the lake. Bystanders started searching for him but were unable to locate the swimmer.
"Chilliwack RCMP, Chilliwack Search and Rescue, Cultus Lake Fire Department, and BC Emergency Health Services all attended to assist in the search for the man. An extensive search was conducted both on foot and by boat but the man was not located that day."
The BC RCMP Dive Team attended the next day, on Sept. 8, and managed to locate and recover the man’s body.
The BC Coroner Service was also on-scene and confirmed there was no sign of foul play. The man’s next of kin has been notified.
"The Chilliwack RCMP would like to thank all those who assisted with the search," said Cpl. Brett Urano, RCMP spokesperson. "We have actively engaged our victim services team to support the family after this tragic incident."
