LETTER: You should do better. Shame.

The Editor,

Re: Adrian MacNair's  "Sympathy for the dog killer Paulsen"

As a fellow journalist and reporter for a small town paper here on the island, and more importantly, as a long term pet owner, dog rescuer, the column (you know the one I am talking about) made me physically ill when I read it this morning.

While I can understand we are not all animal lovers, or "dog people" as clearly, the columnist is not, there is a line of demarcation that I believe should not be crossed in journalism, and it was crossed here by the publication of that hateful, belligerent, cruel, thoughtless feature.

Nothing good could come from that.

You may empower the haters, but you will crush those who have experienced the loss of a beloved pet, who only have a pet for company in their lives, who believe we do see them again and who cling onto that belief in order to stay in the world a little longer themselves.
Seriously?

This is the worst piece of offensive drivel I have seen written in a long time. No integrity. No class. You should do better. Shame.
