Lord Tweedsmuir wins opening playoff game

CLOVERDALE - lord Tweedsmuir's football team put on an offensive clinic in their 35-20 win over the Belmont Bulldogs, scoring on five of their seven offensive possessions in the opening round of the playoffs.

Grade 11 quarterback Jonny Chwaklinski scored three rushing touchdowns and a 70-yard passing touchdown in his first full game at the senior varsity level.

Head coach Kurt Thornton said he wanted the quarterback to attempt a few play-action passes, but the run game was so effective and he wanted to "control the clock."

Thornton said he's glad to have Chwaklinski back, adding he has much more to offer the team. The coach noted the quarterback option worked really well (60 yards on eight carries) considering Chwaklinski spent most of the season recovering from an injury.

"It adds a whole other dimension to our offense," Thornton said. "Our offense

is based on having a running quarterback because it's tough to defend."

Chwaklinski was given the game ball by Thornton after the game.

Hayden Hamilton added his 13th and 14th sacks of the season, breaking lord Tweedsmuir's single-season sack record of 12.

The Panthers face South Delta Sun Devils, who only lost one game in the regular season, in the quarterfinals on Friday (Nov. 21) at 2 p.m. at Minoru Park in Richmond.
