A man has been arrested and charged after a spate of bank robberies in Surrey.

RCMP say that between April 4 and 7, someone robbed three banks in Newton and Guildford.

On April 9, police arrested 24-year-old Merlin Saunders without incident.

He is facing three counts of robbery.

“Due to the frequency of these offences, this arrest undoubtedly prevented more robberies from being committed and jeopardizing public safety,” said Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann.

Since January 2015, the Surrey RCMP Robbery Unit has solved and secured charges in nearly 85 per cent of all bank robberies in Surrey.
