Man assaults police after crashing car into fence in Surrey

SURREY -- Police have a 39-year-old man in custody after he crashed his car into a fence and then assaulted an officer on Saturday night.

At around 9:30 p.m., RCMP received calls that a white Ford Taurus had gone off the road and crashed into a fence near Kildare Drive and 152nd Street, striking a guard rail and then ended up in a residential yard.

When approached by police, the driver, who was driving while prohibited, was combative. The suspect is known to police, and faced outstanding warrants at the time of the arrest.

The suspect is now facing charges including the assault of a police officer.
