WHALLEY – Members and visitors of the Whalley Legion Branch #229 were surprised when they saw police tape surrounding their block Friday morning due to what would later become Surrey’s 10th homicide.

According to Surrey RCMP, 63-year-old Donald Williams Deweyn was found in the 10600-block of 135A Street at 5 a.m. suffering from stab wounds.

IHIT Staff Sergeant Jennifer Pound said Deweyn was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“It appears there might have been some type of argument that precipitated this stabbing, but again, it’s early and we’re looking to confirm all the information," said Pound at the scene.

“We don’t have any suspects at this point and there have been no arrests that have been made. We are talking to some individuals, but we’re looking to identify more individuals."

Pound added that Deweyn doesn’t have a criminal record and that the team is currently in the evidence-gathering phase.

In the meantime, a long stretch of 135A Street has been cordoned off while investigators process the scene Friday afternoon.

Anyone with information can call the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-4448.
