Surrey RCMP investigate the early morning discovery of a man's body in a car at South Surrey's Morgan Crossing shopping centre Wednesday.

A man's body was found early this morning in the parking lot of a South Surrey shopping area.

Police were called to Morgan Crossing at 4:50 a.m., where the body was found in a four-door white vehicle parked near the Royal Bank of Canada.

The car has since been covered by a white cloth by police.

There is no indication of foul play at this time, however, Surrey Major Crime investigators are at the scene.

Officers have yet to confirm the identity of the deceased.

"We've got a bit of work to do," Staff Sgt. Rob Parker told Peace Arch News.

When asked if the death could be connected to the April 24 targeted shooting of South Surrey resident Craig Widdifield in Morgan Crossing, Parker said there was "no indication of this being anything the community needs to worry about."

Shortly after 9 a.m., Surrey RCMP said in a news release that "police do not believe the death is suspicious or that there is any risk to the public."

More to come…
