Mounties relaunch safety forums

Surrey RCMP’s five district Commanders will be hosting a second series of neighbourhood safety presentations at local schools.

Surrey RCMP are launching a second set of neighbourhood safety forums at area schools,  hoping to further engage communities.

Last January, Mounties kicked off the Neighbourhood Safety Campaign to help communities mobilize and better enhance their own safety.

The first series of forums was attended by more than 500 residents.

“For crime prevention to be truly effective, it requires a coordinated effort between residents and police,” said Staff Sgt. Scott Campbell. “We are looking forward to connecting with more residents and addressing crime concerns in those areas.”

Each neighbourhood safety presentation provides residents with information on local crime trends, current policing initiatives, property crime, and how to report crime and suspicious activity. Attendees will also learn how they can play a role in crime prevention.

Upcoming sessions are as follows:

  • Bridgeview Elementary, 12834 115A Ave., May 20 at 6:30 p.m.
  • George Greenaway Elementary School, 17285 61A Ave., May 21 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Semiahmoo Secondary, 1785 148 St., May 26 at 6:30 p.m.
  • James Ardiel Elementary, 13751 112 Ave.,  May 27 at 6:30 p.m.
  • • Chimney Hill Elementary, 14755 74 Ave., May 28, at 6:30 p.m.

Registration is available on the Surrey RCMP website at www.surrey.rcmp.ca (click “Neighbourhood Safety Campaign” under “Policing Highlights”).
