A man wanted in Port Angeles for "homicide by strangulation in the first degree" was turned over to U.S. officials at the Peace Arch border last week.
According to a news release issued Friday morning by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the 58-year-old California man was escorted to Blaine on Nov. 15 by Canada Border Services Agency officers after serving more than 30 years in Canada for murder.
No details on the Canadian crime or the date of the alleged Port Angeles crime were provided.
The extradition process began "months ago," when CBSA discovered the Port Angeles warrant and contacted that city's police department to confirm if it was still valid.
The man was turned over to deputies with the Whatcom County Sheriff's office and transported to jail.
