PHOTOS: Truck carrying corn silage goes up in flames in Chilliwack

Firefighters attended scene on Yale Road where driver of truck on fire veered off road in pullout

A truck transporting corn silage was engulfed in flames on Yale Road east of Reeves Road in Chilliwack on Wednesday (Sept. 18).

The incident happened shortly after 8 a.m.

Chilliwack Fire Department crews raced to the scene where the burning truck had pulled off the road.

According to the driver, he was heading west to deliver the silage to a farm on Yale Road when he started to smell fuel. Moments later, when he stopped for a school bus, the truck caught fire.

The driver pulled off to the side at the corner of Reeves Road, grabbed his metal coffee cup, and jumped out of the truck. The driver was not injured.

Yale Road at Reeves was closed in both directions as crews tackled the blaze.

Crews were clear of that incident as of 8:27 a.m.

There was another Yale Road fire near Prest Road earlier that same morning, where a shed went up in flames.

Communication wires were burned in the incident which could impact services in the area.
