There was a major police incident in Cloverdale around noon on Friday, May 30.

Police were at 61A Avenue and 176th Street and, according to some users on Facebook, police used serious measures.

“They used a flash-bang to take a single guy down who was walking on the street,” Facebook user Lori Little wrote. “They, meaning SWAT, who jumped out of a large sprinter van, and about 7 police cars.”

Little added that 61A was blocked at the time from 175A Street over to 176th Stree, but that 176 itself was not blocked.

Facebook user Vic Wozniak wrote that he heard the flash-bang from 185th Street and 57th Avenue.

According to Facebook users, police had cleared out of the area by 2 p.m.

Ian MacDonald, Surrey police Service media relations officer, told the Cloverdale Reporter via email, one man was arrested.

"SPS officers and LMD ERT arrested a subject who is connected to a continuing investigation that began in District 3 (Newton)," MacDonald wrote. "The man was taken into custody without incident. Our investigation is continuing and SPS will be able to provide more information once search warrants and other actions have been completed."
