Surrey RCMP say two men injured in a shooting Friday (Jan. 28) are now in stable condition.

Around 6:45 p.m., police responded to a report of shots fired in the 12200-block of 80B Avenue, according to a release from Staff Sgt. Dave Wise. He said two men were found with “serious injuries consistent with gunshot wounds,” and they were taken to hospital to be treated.

Wise noted the investigation is in its early stages, and initial indications are that this was a targeted shooting. At the time of the shooting, Wise said it’s “believed” the suspect, or suspects, fled the area in a vehicle, but “at this point police do not have a description of the vehicle or suspect(s) to release to the public.”

However, shortly after the shooting, a torched vehicle was found in North Delta on 64 Avenue at 109 Street.

Surrey RCMP has confirmed the SUV is “believed to be connected to the shooting.”

On Saturday, Surrey RCMP Const. Sarbjit K. Sangha said the two men were in stable condition.

One of the men, she said, had an outstanding warrant and is in police custody.

Sangha said the shooting is believed to be linked to the drug trade and the Lower Mainland gang conflict.

The investigation is being led by the Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit, with help from a number of specialized teams including the Surrey Gang Enforcement Team, the Integrated Forensic Identification Team.

The night of the shooting, Police Dog Services and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit also helped, Sangha said.

On Saturday, police had a house in the cul-de-sac on 80B Avenue, just off 122A Street, behind police tape, as well as a forested area to the right of the house.

Anyone with information about this incident, or who may have dash cam footage in the area at the time of the shooting is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.

It was just a few months ago there was a fatal shooting on that same street on the other side of 80 Avenue.

Sharnbeer Singh Somal, who was known to police, was shot and killed in a driveway on 122A Street on Oct. 5, 2021.

Police noted the shooting of 28-year-old Somal, a Surrey resident, is believed to be targeted and connected to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.
