A person has been hit and killed by a train at White Rock Beach, police said.

The body of a male was located Friday around 11:45 a.m. on the railroad tracks south of Bay Street past the end of the promenade on West Beach.

"White Rock RCMP, with support from CN Police, are continuing their investigation but can confirm that trauma to the body is consistent with this individual being struck by a train," a statement said.

White Rock RCMP Cst. Chantal Sears told Peace Arch News Friday the detachment was hopeful of being able to release more information, pending notification of next-of-kin, but as of Monday Staff Sgt. Lesli Roseberry referred all comment to the BC Coroners Service.

Police and the Coroners Service are investigating all the circumstances of the incident and are asking anyone who may have information to contact White Rock RCMP at 778-593-3600.
