Police make arrest in Surrey schoolyard stabbing, but ‘there are still witnesses out there’

The 2022 stabbing death of a teen in a Surrey schoolyard has led to an arrest by police.

After noon last Nov. 22, 18-year old Mahekpreet Sethi died after being attacked outside Tamanawis Secondary in Newton.

Surrey RCMP took a 17-year-old suspect into custody, and “as a result of advancements in the ongoing investigation,” IHIT made an arrest on Wednesday (June 14), but no name has been released to news media.

“There are still witnesses out there that have yet to come forward,” IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti stated. “Now is the time to do the right thing. If you or one of your loved ones have information about this tragedy, and you have yet to speak to the police, contact IHIT or the Surrey RCMP immediately.”
