Police are warning the public after a woman was grabbed and sexually assaulted while walking to her car on Simon Fraser University's Burnaby Mountain campus.

The assault happened Tuesday night, at about 7:30 p.m. The woman heard a noise and was grabbed by a male suspect, Burnaby RCMP said in a press release.

She was then held by the suspect and sexually assaulted. When passers-by were heard in the area, the man quickly released her and ran away.

The man is described as:

  • tall
  • medium to heavy build
  • deep voice with no accent
  • wearing a grey, long sleeved hoodie or shirt

"We want to caution the public when walking at night to stick to well lit areas and stay off your electronic device to increase your situational awareness," Burnaby RCMP St. Sgt. Major John A. Buis said.

If anyone has any information about the incident, or identity of the man call Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922 or Crime Stoppers.
