Senior killed in Surrey scooter crash

SURREY — A 75-year-old Surrey woman was killed Sunday night when a minivan struck her scooter in a marked crosswalk near Surrey Memorial Hospital.

The victim was crossing King George Boulevard at 96th Avenue, at about 8 p.m., when she was hit by a ’99 minivan struck by a 23-year-old Surrey woman. The driver stayed at the scene. Her vehicle is undergoing a mechanical inspection as the Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team investigates the crash.

Cpl. Bill Paquet said alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash.
