The Internet is fantastic, because you can access anything. It's an open forum – a constantly refreshed thread. It's become the billboard for Sensible BC, the marijuana decriminalization/activist group led by Dana Larsen.
That was until last week, when it became clear to Larsen that Sensible BC was not allowed at Tim Hortons.
Larsen told The Huffington Post B.C. that Tim Hortons had called him over the phone two weeks ago, and told him to stop holding meetings at their fast food coffee shops. Then, after a couple of days, the site was inaccessible on the stores' wireless internet.
On Thursday, Tim Hortons overturned their apparent decision, and the site was once again accessible from their stores.
"I went online and checked meetings at Tim Hortons and there's plenty of people out there advertising that they're meeting at Tim Hortons with all kinds of meeting groups," Larsen told the Huff Post (link above).
"I don't know exactly why they singled us out."
In an interview with CTV News, Tim Hortons spokeswoman Alexandra Cygal said Sensible BC's website was blocked in error, and it was reversed as soon as the coffee chain was told about it.
"This particular website should never have been blocked and once we received a request to unblock it last week, access was granted," Cygal said.
Larsen recently finished a 40-stop tour of British Columbia, and Sensible BC is about to being a campaign for marijuana reform. The group is also trying to convince Victoria to pass the Sensible Policing Act.
Sensible BC is aiming to collect 400,000 signatures to launch a marijuana referendum for 2014. Their campaign runs from September 9 until December 5, 2013.
