The elevator at Surrey Central SkyTrain station will be shut down Feb. 1 until further notice while TransLink renovates the station to install faregates.
Spokesman Drew Snider said the elevator will be out of service for several months and passengers who normally use it should go to King George or Gateway stations instead.
Scott Road station's west side elevator, which opened late last year, is also being taken out of service for faregate installations.
The faregates will end open access to SkyTrain and will be accompanied by the roll out of Compass smart cards for fare payment.
The system is expected to improve security, reduce fare evasion and give TransLink much better data on passenger movements so it can plan more efficiently.
