A North Vancouver homeowner arrived home Tuesday to find a Surrey man asleep on his couch.

Police were called to an apartment on Dec. 16 at about 10 a.m. where they discovered a 24-year-old from Surrey had allegedly broken in and helped himself to some food and other items, including wearing the homeowner's T-shirt.

The suspect had gathered up other property into his backpack and then apparently hit the couch to take a nap.

"He certainly was surprised to see the police," said North Vancouver RCMP Cpl. Richard De Jong.
