B.C. Transportation Minister Todd Stone and other dignitaries get a tour Friday of progress so far on construction of the South Fraser Perimeter Road.

The South Fraser Perimeter Road is now 80 per cent finished and on track to fully open in December.

Federal and provincial transportation ministers marked the milestone Friday, saying the new four-lane 40-kilometre route will improve the flow of goods and people, by shifting heavy trucks off residential streets.

The northeast third of the SFPR from Highway 1 to the Pattullo Bridge opened last December, at the same time as tolls went on the new Port Mann Bridge, as the Pattullo is the free alternate route.

The $1.264-billion project links various industrial and port sites in Delta and Surrey.
