South Surrey house fire closes part of 16th Avenue

SOUTH SURREY - Fire crews have extinguished a fire that gutted a house in South Surrey this morning in a heavily wooded area on 16th Avenue.

Surrey Fire Service Battalion Chief Steve Zecchel said no one was inside the home when the blaze broke out shortly before 6 a.m. Firefighters remain on scene working to put out any hot spots.

“The house is a total loss,” he said, adding investigators are trying to get in touch with the owners. The fire was contained before it spread to any trees or neighbouring houses.

Traffic reports say 16th Avenue remains closed in both directions between 168th and 176th streets.
