A cab driver is recovering after being stabbed by a fare on the weekend.

On Sunday, at about 5:30 a.m., Mounties were called by a taxi driver in the 13300-block of 105A Avenue.

The cabbie said he'd picked up a lone male fare in the area of 108 Avenue and 144 Street and was assaulted a short time later at the location from which he called police.

During the assault, the man pulled out a knife and stabbed the cabbie in the arm and hand.

The attacker then took the taxi driver's wallet, cash and cellphone, then fled.

The cab driver was taken to hospital, treated and released.

The suspect was last seen running west on 105A Avenue.

He is described as slender, with a dark complexion, slender, wearing black pants and black hoodie.

Surrey RCMP are seeking public assistance in identifying and locating the suspect male in this incident.

Anyone who may have seen anything in the area of 108 Avenue., and 144 Street between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
