If you’re young, Surrey City Hall is the place to work.
That’s according to Canada’s Top Employers for Young People competition, which chose the City of Surrey as one of the country’s best workplaces.
Surrey joins Calgary and the York Region as the only municipalities to be chosen as a top employer for young workers.
The city was praised for its efforts helping young people build and advance their careers, which included a two-year “Emerging Leaders” program and a new “Future Leaders" program that aims to help youth between 14 and 21 succeed as recreation leaders through an eight-week program.
Also recognized was the city’s efforts to partner with Surrey Schools to provide mentorship opportunities for employees, and the city’s practicum program for post-secondary students.

“We take great pride and are firmly committed in ensuring young people are provided with meaningful opportunities to make a positive transition to the work world,” said Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner in a release. “With one third of the population of Surrey under the age of 19, it’s a smart strategy for the future of our City to help new talent learn, grow and progress as they embark on their careers.”
First published in 2002, Canada’s Top Employers for Young People is an editorial competition organized by Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. According to its website, the winning employers are chosen through their efforts to “attract and retain young workers.”
